Devil’s Golf Course
Devil’s Golf Course is salt and gravel formation within the Badwater Basin in Death Valley. The weathering process creates rather unique and complicated formations. The 1934 National Park Service guide described the region as “Only the devil could play golf”, thus the name. The salt on the gravel is hard and sharp. I got cut a few times. On one of the rocks the salt spike went though my shoe’s sole!
It is one of the places where photography does not do the justice to the landscape. I took a lot of photographs, but could not capture the feeling of being there. I walked the formation for a few hundred yards in each direction to change the perspective. I still could not get the picture I wanted. I googled to see if I could find someone who has done a better job. There are a lot of good ones out there, but nothing came close to being there.
